CHIPS DEFEAT WHITE CLOUD IN ANOTHER IMPORTANT LEAGUE CONTEST

While the visiting Indians played strong, Manistee won another WWAC contest at home, defeating White Cloud, 69-55 before a large crowd at Chippewa Gymnasium.

Three players hit double-figures, including Savela and Tiefenthal with 16 each, while sophomore Julia Maksym dropped in 12 big points, plus 11 rebounds.

Manistee is undefeated in the league and still plays Holton next week.  Overall, the Chips are now 12-6.

CHIPPEWAS WIN CLOSE ONE AGAINST RANKED STAGS

 It went down to the wire, but a last second shot didn't drop for Kingsley as Manistee sqeaked out a 53-52 victory.  It was only the second loss of the season for the Class C highly ranked Stags.

Sophomore guard Rose Savela dropped in a layup with just 9 seconds to go for what ended up being the winning shot.  She led the Chips with 26 points, while Ashley Tiefenthal added 9.

Manistee is now 11-6 overall.

TOUGH GAME AT CADILLAC GOES TO MANISTEE

A hard fought contest finished with the Chips on the winning end, 51-44.  After a roaring 27-11 half time lead, Cadillac came back by outscoring Manistee 20-15 in the 4th quarter, but the Chips held on for the victory.

Sophomore Rose Savela led all scorers with 23 points, while Majchrzk and Tiefenthal each put in 7.

HOME COURT KIND TO THE CHIPS

With great defense and quick scoring, Manistee defeated Maple City-Glen Lake, 66-28.  A balanced scoring attack helped seal the win, with Rose Savela leading with 18 points, while Ashley Tiefenthal put in 11.  Kristen Merkey and Julia Maksym each added 8.  The Chips are at a season record of 9-6 on the year.

REED CITY AGAIN TOO MUCH FOR MANISTEE

Despite 28 points from guard Rose Savela, the Chippewas were defeated at the hands of the Coyotes for the second time this season, 75-56.  Reed City jumped out to a 38-23 half time lead to cruise on to victory.

Besides Savela's 28, Ashley Tiefenthal added 13 as Manistee's record moves to 8-6 on the season.

Another Conference Win for The Chips

Playing on their home floor, the Chippewas defeated Hesperia, 64-26 in a WWAC matchup.  The win keeps Manistee's winning streak in the conference in tact.  The Chips are 4-0 this season, adding to 6 straight from last year. 

Sophomore Rose Savela led the way with 13 points, while Sarah Solberg added 12, and Kristen Merkey also put in double-figures with 10.  Manistee is now 8-5 on the season.

TC WEST OVERPOWERS MANISTEE

In a Saturday afternoon contest, the Chips were down 37-22 at half, and ended up falling 69-46 to the Titans.  Rose Savela put in 18 points for the Chips, while Ashley Tiefenthal had 8 and McKenzie Majchrzak added 7.

The Chips are now 7-5 on the season.

BIG RAPIDS TOO MUCH FOR CHIPS

Despite a valiant effort in the second half, the Chippewas fell to a veteran Big Rapids team, 72-60 Monday night.  Manistee trailed early on, but came on strong in the second half.  However, poor foul shooting in the contest failed the Chips in their quest for a victory over the 13-2 Cardinals.

Rose Savela led the Chips with 32 points and 5 assists.  Ashley Tiefenthal added 15 points, while McKenzie Majchrzak put in 10.  Manistee is now 7-4 overall on the season.

ANOTHER CONFERENCE WIN FOR MANISTEE

It was another conference win and another win on the road for the Chippewas.  Manistee remained undefeated on the road for the season with a 65-44 win over White Cloud.

The host Indians trailed 39-26 at half, and Manistee kept the pressure on in the second half.  Rose Savela led all scorers with 25 points.  McKenzie Majchrzak added 10 and Sarah Solberg put in 9.

The Chips are 3-0 in the league and 7-3 overall.

 Chips Down Vikings

In their first game back after the Christmas Break, Manistee played tough to beat at home, defeated Cadillac, 55-42.  Rose Savela led a balanced attack with 25 points, followed by McKenzie Majchrzak with 10 and Ashley Tiefenthal with 9.

The big home win put the Chippewas at 6-3 overall on the season.

ORIOLES WIN IN MANISTEE

After a 37-20 halftime lead, the Ludington Orioles continued onward to defeat Manistee 66-43.  The Chippewas had too many turnovers and missed shots to contend with the state ranked Orioles.

Rose Savela led with 20 points, while Ashley Tiefenthal added 7.  MAnistee is now 5-3 overall.

BIG WIN OVER CLASS A TROJANS

It's never easy winning in Traverse City, but the Chippewa team hung on for a 46-38 victory over Central.  Rose Savela led the team with 19 points, while Ashley Tiefenthal and McKenzie Majchrzak both added 8.  

The Chips are now 5-2 on the season. 

CLOSE BUT NO AGAINST HEIGHTS

Despite a 5 point lead after 3 quarters, Manistee couldn't hold on and fell 47-43 to Muskegon Heights.  In the contest played at Manistee, the visiting Tigers used an 18-9 4th quarter to seal the victory.

Rose Savela was the only Chippewa in double figures with 10 points. 

BACK ON THE WINNING TRACK

The Chippewas rebounded from the loss to Reed City by defeateing Holton 60-18 on the Red Devils home court.  A 20-4 advantage in the first quarter got the Manistee team off to a good start. 

Sophomore Rose Savela led all scorers with 17 points, while Julia Maksym added 10.

FIRST LOSS COMES AGAINST REED CITY

The Manistee Varsity saw it's record move to 3-1 on the season, after a tough 67-51 loss to Reed City.  The Coyotes used a tough defense in the second half to open up a 1 point game midway.

Leading the Chips were Rose Savela with 24 points, while McKenzie Majchrzak added 10 and Ashley Tiefenthal put in 9.

CHIPS WIN FIRST HOME GAME

A big 19-2 first quarter advantage put the Chips out front to stay against the Hart Pirates.  In their first home game of the season, Manistee received 20 points from Rose Savela and 14 points from Sarah Solberg.

Ashley Tiefenthal dished out 10 assists on the evening, which saw the Chippewas move their record to 3-0 on the young season.

WIN NUMBER TWO COMES ON THE ROAD AT HESPERIA 

Opening up WWAC play on the road, the Chippewas defeated Hesperia, 65-18.  A big 29 point second quarter opened up the game for Manistee, who received 27 points from sophomore guard Rose Savela.  She added 8 rebounds. 

Also scoring were Sarah Solberg and McKenzie Majchrzak with 8 each.  Julia Maksym added 5 rebounds, while Savela and Ashley Tiefenthal each passed for 5 assists.

The Chips are now 2-0 on the season, with a 1-0 record in the league.  Next up is Hart on Tuesday, as Manistee opens the home portion of their schedule.

CHIPPEWAS OPEN SEASON WITH VICTORY

The Manistee High School Varisty Girls basketball team opened the new season with a 44-28 win over Mason County Central.  The contest was the first ever basketball game played in Central's new gymnasium, with a great crowd on hand.

The Chips started out slow on offense, but kept up the defensive pressure to knock down 17 points in the second quarter.

Rose Savela led in scoring with 17 points, while Sarah Solberg added 12.
